Automating Sewing Operations With Barcode Technology

Automating Sewing Operations With Barcode Technology

Company Overview

Major Transformation Of Sewing Operations

One of India’s leading apparel manufacturers with outlets in over 12 major cities needed our help. They have been in the industry for over a decade. However, they wanted to embrace barcode technology and upscale their business operations. This is where Tridhya Tech enters the scene.

The apparel manufacturer (our client for this project) relied heavily on physical records and manual labor for quality control and work order management. This approach resulted in error-prone and unstructured manufacturing. Using cutting-edge technology and agile methodology, we designed a solution that automated work order management and quality control.

Business Challenges

  • Inconsistent Quality

Factory workers had to follow strict quality guidelines, but over-reliance on paper records and manual verification resulted in a sluggish process. The company wanted to optimize the manufacturing and quality control process to achieve greater efficiency and productivity.

  • Lower Productivity

Earlier, quality control professionals had to halt production to conduct quality inspection. Performing manual quality checks is time-consuming and halting production means inefficient use of equipment, labor and time for production, resulting in lower productivity.

  • Scalability

The client depended on traditional manufacturing and quality control techniques. New operators required extensive training to conduct quality checks. Since manual processes have their limitations, it was hard for the client to scale business operations.

Business Solution

Tailored Desktop Application

We developed a customized application that integrates with the web admin panel. This integration allows operators and managers to access real-time data and perform quality control checks without stopping production. Our client could increase productivity and scale operations.

Barcode-Enabled Automation

Integrating work orders and pre-set values (material specifications, tensile strength, weave structure, etc.) with barcodes resulted in the uniform quality of goods produced by machines. Comparing machine data with preset values facilitates robust quality control.

Predictive Maintenance Capabilities

Integrating sew machines with the desktop application has two benefits. Firstly, it allows quality control specialists to monitor and evaluate the performance of operators. Secondly, supervisors can monitor equipment performance and avoid costly repairs and breakdowns.

Conclusion

We faced many hurdles right from the beginning. Besides understanding the industry and the business’s unique challenges, we had to coordinate with multiple departments and stakeholders. The management wanted a simple yet effective solution to address their productivity and quality control issues.

Our experience in integrating new technologies with systems and customizing it for specific companies helped us design a web application and desktop application. The combined powers of these plus barcode technology helped our client save money and boost productivity.
